DORINGBAAI | STRANDFONTEIN
"We were enveloped in the essence of childhood camping memories"
Our third leg of the West Coast journey brought us to the tranquil shores of Strandfontein. Arriving during the festive season of Christmas and Boxing Day, the atmosphere was serene compared to our earlier stops. Strolling through the iconic horseshoe campgrounds, we were enveloped in the essence of childhood camping memories, with the laughter of children echoing through the streets and the aroma of braais wafting through the air.
Despite its modest offerings, Strandfontein provided the perfect backdrop for us to unwind and cherish each other's company, especially as it marked our first Christmas away from family. Bonding with our camping neighbours over shared experiences and the intoxicating West Coast summer vibes, we found ourselves drawn to the cozy Fish Tank bar, a hidden gem where we revelled in good times and laughter.
However, the pinnacle of our adventure awaited in the nearby town of Doringbaai, where Tobi's diving skills rewarded us with two exquisite crayfish. Our indulgent date night at Fryers Cove elevated the experience, tantalising our taste buds with creamy white wine mussels and beer-battered fish and chips.
Sipping on the refreshing Fryers Cove rosé, harvested from the coastal cliffs between Strandfontein and Doringbaai, we savoured the essence of the ocean breeze in every sip, a perfect accompaniment to the summer season. Our evening reached its crescendo as we bonded with an extraordinary couple over a shared feast, swapping tales of travel and adventure late into the night, cementing friendships that transcended mere chance encounters.
