TIETIESBAAI
"The absence of a few front teeth only adds to the charm and the tales of the coast."
We kicked off our West Coast road trip at Tietiesbaai – a cozy camp spot near Paternoster, famous for crayfish which, by the way, Tobi, my fiancé, attempted to catch, however, his attempts were more akin to a comedy sketch than a successful fishing expedition with the little fellows he presented upon arriving at shore.
Meanwhile, the local legends, sporting nothing more than snorkels, board shorts and a crayfish-catching contraption that resembled something out of a MacGyver episode, effortlessly plunged into the water and emerged moments later with a colossal crayfish, as if they were summoning it with a mere wink and a smile. And oh, that iconic West Coast grin, where the absence of a few front teeth only adds to the charm of the coast.
Tobi may not have mastered the art of crayfish catching, but he certainly gained a lesson in the magic of coastal prowess. Our neighboring campers however hit the crayfish jackpot and generously shared their spoils. A bit of deeper diving saw Tobes spearfish a delicious Hottentot, saving us from a seafood drought. Our weekend soundtrack? The South Eastern wind
